
Member of Parliament and former Olympic cross-country skier Juha Mieto explains how it feels to compete in the greatest sporting event in the world, and why his sport – one of the most popular in Finland – holds so much appeal.
Juha Mieto, born in 1949, is an icon of Finnish cross-country skiing. Almost two metres tall, with a trademark beard that has grown bushier over the years, he is not forgotten although he retired from competitive skiing in the mid-1980s. He has made a second career in politics as a member of Parliament for the Centre Party.
