The Finnish Institute

The Finnish Institute opened its doors in Estonia in 1991. Its mission is to develop cultural relations between Finland and Estonia as broadly as possible. The institute introduces Estonians to Finnish art and culture, achievements in science and research, technology and economy. It also does all it can to help Estonian citizens find suitable study and skills' practice opportunities in Finland.

The institute's libraries in Tallinn and Tartu have over 3,000 volumes of Finnish literature and non-fiction and offer visitors the chance to browse through Finnish newspapers, magazines and CDs.

The Institute organises a variety of local exhibitions, seminars, concerts, lectures and meeting-and-greetings with authors as well as introducing Finnish films, national traditions and the activities of a range of organisations. More information about all of these can be found on the Institute´s website.

The Institute's work is financed primarily by the Finnish Ministry of Education. Supporting the Institute there is a private foundation made up of 40 members, universities, towns and other public organisations.
